Creepy skincare pt.1

Sheet Masks

I'm a bit of an odd girlie, which manifests in several different ways. One of them is the products I use, especially those that have a creepy quality to them. As expected, I've decided to kick-off this strain of skincare posts with my favourite ever things to put on my face besides the blood of mine enemies - sheet masks YAAAAAAAY!!!

1.) The Face shop - character mask - dragon

Now this flippin' thing did not fit my face... at all. I appreciate that most mask sheets are designed with a beautiful Asian lady's face in mind, the shape is a little rounder, contours a little softer and the eye holes slightly smaller. Now, my face is narrow even by Caucasian standards. In spite if this however, I've always managed to adjust them to a fashion where they at least sit comfortably, but the cut outs for the eyes and mouth were a little too small which threw out the positioning as a whole. Pah!  The dragon design just made the wonkiness more obvious. The mask itself was soaked in a serum containing the usual anti aging principles - hyaluronic acid and collagen. It made my skin feel smoother and hydrated, but the effect did not last as long as expected.

Looked a bit scary for half an hour which was fun I suppose, but overall I'd only give a disappointing rating of 2/5.

2.) SexyLook - intensive whitening black cotton mask

I am all over these masks right now; absolutely superb! The masks are completely black with a wonderful soft velvety texture which feels nice even once totally dry. The essence combines some wonderfully dark ingredients: obsidian, charcoal, black bee honey and black pearl to absorb excess oil and whiten the skin. This brightened my complexion beautifully and made my skin feel incredibly smooth. I am eager to try out the rest of these masks, would definitely repurchase - 5/5. In the picture below I didn't unfold the nose flap because at the time the tip of my nose was still feeling slightly tingly following a blackhead scrub treatment and I didn't want any negative interactions.

I totes look like the rubber man from American Horror Story ;P

3.) Berrisom - Horror Mask - Skull (black rice)

This awesome mask contains rice extract, licorice, ceramide 3 and collagen, whitening + anti aging + moisturising = fan-bloody-tastic. I absolutely love the skull design; having an bit of an unhealthy attachment to the dia de muertos festival it made me feel quite at home. It gave me wonderful milky skin; brighter, whiter, blemish free and exceptionally smooth. So glad I have nine more of these for further use, especially as I don't quite feel ready to give a final rating just yet. My initial impression came to a 4/5 but we'll see if that declines or improves in the weeks to come.

4.) Missha - Nightglow Mask - Spider

Saved the best til last - spooky glow in the dark sheet masks! While I had some reservations about exposing my skin to chemical phosphors, it ultimately didn't outweigh my curiosity. Missha essences/serums are renowned for being some of the best on the market, so I was eager to try out a couple of their sheet masks to see how they compared. The night glow masks come in three different designs, spider, bat and butterfly; they all contain the same active principles, hyaluronic acid, propolis etc.

That's right. I'm wearing Han Solo leggings.

The spider design looked quite sweet under the warm incandescence of my living room. I had hoped, that it would absorb a sufficient amount of light from the iffy energy saving bulbs that are in each and every room in the house. When I turned the lights off however the glow in the dark pattern didn't show up at all!

After thirty minutes all the essence had pretty much dried to the point where the mask no longer stuck to my face. I blasted it with the torch after removal to see if the glow in the dark design did in fact exist, and lo and behold! It was actually much brighter than the camera was able to pick up. My skin felt lovely, and it was nice that there was no residue left over from any excess serum.
5.) Missha - Nightglow Mask - Bat

This is my favourite :D :D :D Reminiscent of Gene Simmons' famous 'the demon' (I'll let you in on a little secret - the Japanese brand isshin-do honpo actually makes KISS sheet masks... as well as some other really awesome designs but that's a separate post) not only does it look great under normal light, but the night glow design is better than the spider mask in my opinion; it's an accent to the original design as well as a slight deviation from the original 'bat' concept. I'm not quite sure what a witch on a broomstick has to do with bats other than being loosely categorised as 'halloweeny' but anyway:

Lights on
Lights off

Again, I wasn't really using these masks for the properties or effects, but it left my skin feeling hydrated and smooth without making me all sticky so all in all I'd give a 4/5.

Removed & blasted with torch
So those are a few scary sheet masks I've tried out. thank you for reading and I'll be uploading more reviews of my creepy skincare in the near future :) xXx
