Solid Perfumes

I don't really collect concrete de parfum, this is just a mini bundle that I have very gradually accumulated.

First up is definitely a fragrance nasty:

Salvador Dali Ruby Lips soap and solid perfume set.

A present designed to appeal more to my inner Dali fangirl as oppose to the beauty enthusiast methinks. Eughh. Nostrils were well and truly raped. Raped I tell you, right off my bony little face. Smells like a dog ate a cheap petrol station bouquet and threw it up in a vat of generic high street scented moisturiser. And diarrhoea.

Diptyque - L'Ombre Dans L'eau (English translation - Shadow in the Water)

Being a big fan of their scented candles, I decided to give their solids a bash a few months ago. In the case it smells like potpourri and Ribena. The floral notes become more apparent on the skin, but they're no match for the strong and sweet blackcurranty heart of the fragrance. It's a very pleasant fresh spring garden perfume that melts easily on the pulse points. Packaging reminds me of an Oreo cookie.

Valentino  Rock'n Rose

An incredibly girly scent; soft, creamy and sweet. Contrary to what the name suggests, rose is definitely not the dominant smell of this perfume, it's vanilla. Quite nice, very youthful.

Marc Jacobs - Lola

I don't usually go for perfume set in tawdry jewellery, but for Lola I'm willing to shift the margin a tad.
It's a million ingredients away from Rock'n rose but they smell so similar it would be hard not to also get a whiff of creative property lawsuit... mmmmm. The only thing that sets it apart is the tangy bitter edge that must be the grapefruit base notes sharpening the sweetness of the vanilla. Really increases the maturity of the perfume making it more wearable for a sophisticated soiree.

Gucci - Envy (Intense and light)

Perfect peppery blend of pineapple and musk. You hear the word 'envy' and you automatically conjure up heaviness, bitterness, fruit gone offness... but this is actually envy with a slight Hawaiian twist. Though slightly off-putting to start with, it does grow on you eventually, like a dry sauvignon blanc.
