I wouldn't be doing this normally, but peeps have been asking me about the best quality nail polishes out there and would like to know which of my polishes deserve appraisal over and above the rest. Hmmm alright then, we'll start with the stand alone ones of my personal favourites:
![]() |
| Ciate - Oil slick Quite aptly named as you can tell. You do however need more than two coats to achieve the oil puddle look on your nails, otherwise it just goes on a bit too gold. Not one I would wear to work but it’s amazing for a night out. Ciate is definitely one of the best brands out there.
Butter London - Fash Pack
Sheer awesome, perfect marriage of taupe and mushroom with a slight golden shimmer. Prides itself on being a 3 free brand, formaldehydes, carcinogens that kind of thing. If you’re that picky, I’m not.
Best sparkly polish I own by far. Goes on a lot smoother than other glitters I've found. Great colour, great finish :)
The only nail polish of this particular brand. It's my second to favourite red since it's so difficult to find a really beautiful London Bus red without looking too garish or orange. I also love the shape of the bottle, kind of like an inverse leaning tower of pisa - cool!
I. Love. This. Brand.
Definitely one of three most superior polishes out there. And I am a big fan of black nails. A lot of people seem to think black nails are exclusive to the gothic scene. To those people I say - get researching. Women were painting their nails black as early as the flapper period. Became a big favourite with jazz and cabaret performers, and nowadays women are wearing black on their nails more than any other colour simply because it is so versatile. Not to worry, to err is human ;)
Doesn't get more chic than black.
- Caught red handed - No comment
Can't think of a more fitting duo for the 'demimonde' namesake. Mentioned Caught Red Handed in a previous post, but No Comment is very similar to OPI's Black Cherry Chutney in both hue and finish.
Leighton Denny is an excellent brand, great range, long lasting colour.
Finally, the best for last
Tom Ford - Bitter bitch - Viper - Smoke Red
Smoke red is not only the best red polish I have ever owned, I think I can say with 0 uncertainty that it is the best polish I have ever owned. 15 ml of unbridled perfection, oh my nail-gasm. So in love with it.
Bitter bitch, again exceptionally, beautiful shade. normally with a name like that I would suggest that they work on their sales pitch, but not in this case. Didn't know they made mahoganys that soft!
Viper - the best purple by far and away.
I do have another Tom Ford red on the way - Bordeaux Lust. Similar to smoke red only slightly more oxblood.
TF is top end of the market but its relatively inexpensive, modest £25 per polish. Admittedly I have owned more expensive ones than this, but lets not go there.
So there you go, some of my favourites, will do a slightly more detailed post on my entire collection soon. Might even make into a video, so keep an eye out
